In the rugged Sierra del Montsec, nestled deep within the southern reaches of the Pyrenees mountain range, lies a rare mineral of uncommon beauty - blue AERINITE. This extraordinary inosilicate mineral, scientifically classified as Aerinite (Ca4(Al,Fe,Mg)10Si12O35(OH)12CO3·12H2O), boasts a stunning bluish-purple hue that is simply captivating to behold. Aerinite's unique history is deeply intertwined with the art of medieval mural painting, particularly in the Romanesque frescoes that adorn the Catalan Pyrenees. It was this very mineral that was used by skilled artisans to create the breathtaking apse of Sant Climent de Taüll, a masterpiece of medieval architecture that continues to inspire awe in all who lay eyes on it. As an avid adventurer and enthusiast of medieval craftsmanship, I embarked on a challenging expedition to scale the Sierra del Montsec mountains. My ultimate goal was to immerse myself in the rich history of this region by working with authentic materials and techniques - a truly immersive experience that would allow me to connect with the past in a most tangible way.
