The axe-like tool known as the adze has a long history, being used by various cultures around the globe as people groups migrated with advancing technology. Developed as part of the art series "Ghosts in the form of gifts", this commission from Massey University Wellington, New Zealand, dated back to 2009 and garnered attention with the award won in 2010 for Open Source in the Arts (NZ). A selection of replicas are presented within the series, depicting artifacts imagined as lost, misregistered or hidden during the Museum of New Zealand's tenure at the former building on Buckle Street, now occupied by Massey University's College of Creative Arts. Using a combination of drawing, digital 3D rendering and printing via RepRap technology, each object has been meticulously created for public viewing. With freely available digital files under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license, individuals are encouraged to utilize them in educational contexts. Additional objects within the series can be found by searching "Ghosts in the form of gifts". Credits for this model go to Bronwyn Holloway-Smith and Vik Olliver, who licensed it under Attribution - Non-Commercial - Share Alike.
