Adze Blade XCB-003-117. The XCB-003, or IZM-003, site was thoroughly tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. It serves as the primary archaeological site for the Izembek Phase. A small village with a unique whalebone house and numerous artifacts similar to those found in the Bristol Bay region. This ancient settlement dates approximately 1200-1350 CE. Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts are showcased as a result of research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411, led by H. Maschner, Principal Investigator. These artifacts were digitally scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Subsequent processing and publication of the digital models was completed in Geomagic or Polyworks. A total of 2-8 photos were used to create textured surfaces in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work was conducted at the IVL at Id St Univ, with subsequent analysis and publication undertaken by Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's research findings are presented in "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. Additionally, H. Maschner's work is featured in Arctic Anthro, January 1, 2004, vol. 41 no. 2, with a doi of 10.1353/arc.2011.0007.
