Adze Bit. XCB-1053051. 400 BCE - 100 CE XCB-105 Adamagan, a prominent Aleut village site located at the head of Morzhovoi Bay on the western Alaska Peninsula, boasts a rich history spanning multiple occupations. At its peak, between 400 BCE and 100 CE, this massive village was home to an estimated 1,000 people, making it the largest Arctic settlement in existence during that period. Archaeological evidence also suggests limited occupations dating back to 2200-1700 BCE, 1000-600 BCE, and 900-1100 CE. The extensive collection of Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts is a direct result of research conducted under grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), including NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. Principal Investigator H. Maschner led this groundbreaking project. Artifacts were meticulously scanned using either the Faro Edge Arm or the Minolta Vivid 9i. Subsequent processing was completed in Geomagic or Polyworks, while high-quality textures were achieved by incorporating 2-8 photos in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work took place at the Institute for Vitrous and Lithic (IVL) on the campus of Idaho State University, with subsequent processing and publication completed at Global Digital Heritage.
