Ground, Chipped, and Polished Adze Bit. XCB-105-1696. 400 BCE-100 CE XCB-105 Adamagan, a place name in Aleut meaning walrus hunters' location, is situated at the head of Morzhovoi Bay on Alaska's western Peninsula. This massive village has multiple occupation sites, and its peak population during 400 BCE-100 CE reached an estimated 1,000 people, making it the largest Arctic village of that time period. Additional occupations have been found to date back to 2200-1700 BCE, 1000-600 BCE, and 900-1100 CE. Artifacts from Western Alaska's Peninsula were made possible by research grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led the project as Principal Investigator. A Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i was used to scan these artifacts. Geomagic Wrap processed them with 2-8 photos for texture, while digitizing work was initially done at Idaho State University's IVL lab and subsequent processing and publication completed by Global Digital Heritage.
