Advanced LED Lit Badge / Keychain
thingiverse
The final version of I-Hacked.com badge features slight modifications from its original design to accommodate a bicolor LED and allow the battery tray to stay in place without additional hardware. This enables attachment to other badges. The battery tray has a lip to prevent CR2025 batteries from falling out when removed. These changes were made primarily for aesthetic reasons, with the bicolor LED remaining an undocumented feature. Badges included red/blue LEDs that turned red initially but switching to blue required flipping the entire tray over. Construction of this badge is similar to its prototype version but slightly more involved due to the nubs on the middle bridging section that grab onto the battery door. Acrylic isn't ideal for these parts, but they only needed to last a few days. To make the bicolor LED work, one lead must rest on top of the battery while the other rests below it. A shallow depression is created on the back piece by raster etching plastic away to achieve this configuration. A laser cutter is required for adding the lip to the battery tray. Finally, the badge's parts are more easily constructed with a 3D printer and better materials, once a MakerBot is available in their space.
