Venerable Guardian Spirit Palazzo Bargagli, Florence, Italy. circa 1320 - 1323 Carved Marble. This majestic sculpture portrays an angel in all its glory, likely part of an elaborate sculptural ensemble centered around a principal figure or group of figures. The depicted angel probably had a complementary pendant sculpture of the same design, and possibly served as one of several flanking figures to a Risen Christ or a poignant Madonna and Child grouping.
