When this sculpture was showcased in the Venetian palace of the illustrious Sagredo family, the subject was unmistakably revealed as Adonis, a legendary huntsman revered by the goddess Venus. His companion statue of Venus has since vanished into obscurity. Adonis's relaxed pose and exceptionally smooth skin blend innocence with sensuality in a captivating way that might entice even a passing love goddess. However, when Adonis is depicted lying prone, he should be succumbing to his mortal wounds. Corradini appears to have drawn inspiration from another mythological tale - the story of Endymion, a young man whose breathtaking beauty mesmerized Diana, causing her to fall deeply in love with him.
