The marble statue from which Antonio Canova's studio crafted this replica was unearthed near Rome in 1780, joining the Vatican collection where it remains to this day. While its identity has never been definitively confirmed, many have speculated that it is Adonis, beloved of Aphrodite, due to his captivating youth and majestic presence. Created around 1816, this replica was later equipped with a 'modesty covering'. The fig-leaf was removed during restoration work in 2019 and preserved as an archival artifact.
