Adjustable tripod mount for tablet or smartphone
thingiverse
This project allows mounting any tablet or smartphone onto any standard camera stand or tripod. The mount is built from two essential parts: The base, which securely screws onto the camera stand, features a lower groove that holds the tablet in place. The rod contains the top groove and fixes the tablet by being inserted into the corresponding hole in the base. The rod is then slid downwards until the tablet securely rests between the top and bottom grooves. A clamp screw at the rear of the base secures the rod to the desired height. To hold the screw, an M3 screw nut is inserted from inside the rod rail into the corresponding cavity. An M3x10 wing screw (or a standard M3 screw) is used to loosen or fasten the rod. Three optional screw holes are provided: one in the top part of the rod and two in the base. These can be used to attach springs or rubber bands, which pull the rod downwards to hold the tablet by spring force. I found it useful to glue a small piece of soft rubber sheet onto the base for added stability. Besides the fully configurable OpenScad source file, I have included ready-to-print STL files for a larger and smaller base, as well as rods with lengths 10cm, 13cm, 17cm, and 20cm. Choose the rod length according to the width of your tablet or smartphone. Print Settings Supports: No Notes: The provided STL files for the base contain a hole with an inner 1/4-20 UNC thread (the standard for camera mounts), thanks to dkprojects' thread implementation. The parameter gap in the OpenScad source contains the distance between fitting components (base/rod and base/mounting screw) and can be adjusted if needed. I printed these tablet mounts on my DIY box-frame Prusa i3 using a 0.40mm nozzle with 0.25mm layer height and 0.56mm extrusion width.
