Adjustable Spoolholder with Steppermotor Support
prusaprinters

DESCRIPTION:

I created an adjustable spoolholder for my ikea LACK enclosure, because most of my spools have different widths. After a few rolls I got tired off manualy rotating the knob for the moving plate, so I also included a mount for NEMA17 stepper motors.

Things not 3D-printable:

2x linear rods (8mm diameter, ca. 200mm length)

1x Leadscrew (8mm diameter, ca. rodlength + 40mm)

1x Leadscrew-nut (light gray in picture)

4x VSlot-Rolls (https://amzn.to/3CfIsYA used in this design)

13x Threaded Insert M3 (https://amzn.to/3vBZrmr used in this design)

13x M3 Screws

Zip-Ties to keep Lead-Screw in place

For Use with Stepper Motor additionally:

1x Electronics: Arduino, NEMA17 Stepper, 2 Pushbuttons, Stepperdriver (e.g. A4988)

1x Powersupply (1x for Arduino, 1x for stepper (can be used from printer)

1x Motor coupler 5mm to 8 mm (https://amzn.to/35IgqbI used in this design)

1x DC/DC converter (https://amzn.to/35vRsNm I use this one) for 12/24V to 5V for Arduino

Have fun with it.

Please feel free to comment or recommend changes.

________________________________________

FILES:

GCode for my 0.3 mm Layer height settings (for Prusa i3 MK3S)

individual .3mf files if you want to slice on your own (e.g. for different printers)

spoolholder.ino as firmware for the Arduino (mostly commented) (Arduino IDE required to flash and edit the firmware)

________________________________________

CHANGELOG:

0001: 03-03-2022-10-25: Moving plate and frame plates updated to smaller size, they now fit spools with ~20cm diameter

0002: 03-03-2022-11-58: Added spoolholder.ino Arduino firmware

0003: 03-03-2022-12-18: Added MovingPlate and FramePart1 3MF files for mounting VSlot-Wheels with M5 Bolts and threaded inserts (ruthex recommended); also added GCode for this Version (for Prusa i3 MK3S)

0004: 07-03-2022-18-47: Added Circuit diagram for my firmware (Note: on circuit diagram above the second switch should be on Pin 16 as in firmware) (limited to components from iCircuit so Arduino Uno in this circuit diagram)

0005: 07-03-2022-19-07: Added "spoolholder_ArduinoMicroA4988.ino" which is the firmware used for my setup as shown in pictures

________________________________________

FUTURE CHANGES / RECOMMENDATIONS

Limitswitch should be added

NumPad support to enter spool widths (needs limitswitch) instead of jogging manually

GCode support (which command should be used? G1 because linear move?)
