Adjustable Pencil

Pencils are an underestimated yet widely-used invention with various applications, such as homework, sketching designs, drawing pictures, and making grocery lists. As a high school student, I've encountered the inconvenience of different lead sizes for pencils – my .5mm lead couldn't be replaced by classmates who only had .7mm leads. To address this issue, I created an adjustable pencil that accommodates various lead types, eliminating the need to carry multiple pencils. The mechanism is inspired by a drill chuck and features 3 jaws controlled by a tapered worm gear. This innovative design allows for seamless use of diverse leads from existing supplies, set to revolutionize the writing utensil market with its versatile functionality.
