This design is specifically tailored for applications requiring adjustable tension on a GT2 timing belt across an extended range, such as up to 3 inches of tension. I developed it for a friend in ECE4960 Senior Design at Clemson University. Additionally, I incorporated a motor holder that vertically mounts a NEMA 17 stepper motor at the right height to pair with this adjustable idler.
Parts Needed
- M3 bolts (8, approximately 20mm) - Purchase an [Amazon set](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VNDFYNQ/) - M3 nuts (6) - Comes with a standard set - Idler Pulley for GT2 timing belt [Amazon link](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BPLPM7Y) - M4 bolt and nut to secure the Idler in place, requiring 25mm length - GT2 timing belt - Obtain a [kit on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/KeeYees-Timing-Tensioner-Torsion-Printer/dp/B07JKT5BZQ/)
Notes and Tips
This design caters to situations where you have created a custom GT2 timing belt loop that isn't perfectly sized, such as in senior design projects with limited budgets using wood due to its affordability but lack of precision. To craft the belt loop, I recommend overlapping the GT2 belt ends by about 1cm and sewing them together. This will yield a flexible yet secure connection. You can add super glue if you require extra assurance.
