Adjustable Coin Weighted Fidget Spinner
myminifactory
The world has gone wild about Fidget Spinners, so we've made some adjustments due to numerous requests - and no need to buy a metal bearing as it's all 3D printed.\r\n\r\nThe Coin Fidget Spinner is an all 3D printed Fidget Spinner with the ability to add weight with coins and/or washers to achieve the best possible spin... fun to experiment with!\r\n\r\nIt's interesting that too much weight can slow down the spin acceleration, but too little weight reduces the spin time because there isn't enough weight to maintain momentum. Experiment with your spinner to find the perfect spin.\r\n\r\nAdd weight using coins or washers up to 22mm in diameter. It's also very important to apply a light (silicone or similar) lubricant to the moving surfaces as this will greatly improve the spin speed and duration... no different than a metal bearing on dry surfaces moving against another dry surface creates a lot of drag... lubrication fixes this.\r\n\r\nSeparate .stl files are provided for the body, caps, and shims as follows:\r\n\r\nThe body includes the 3D printed plastic bearing and body that holds the weights (coins and shims/spacers). You can print just the body and it will still function well as a spinner.\r\n\r\nThe caps (print three) screw into the body and hold the weights and shims/spacers. You can print just the body and caps (no weights/shims) and it will spin well.\r\n\r\nShims/Spacers are provided in a range of thicknesses to ensure your 'weight stack' is tight and won't move around when spun. Any movement in the weights will affect the balance, spin speed, and duration. The correct shim/spacer to use is the size that will make the weighting stack fractionally higher than the inner depth of the cap.\r\n\r\nPlease refer to the print settings and images for additional information... and post images of your Coin (Weighted) Fidget Spinners in action for other members to see!\r\n\r\nNote: If you like this, check out the rest of my fun and practical designs.\r\n\r\nEasy prints but high fill recommended to ensure strength.\r\n\r\nOn a well-set-up, accurate, precise machine, the centre bearing should free without much effort, and the threaded parts screw together relatively easily. Be careful not to cross-thread the caps... it's just PLA/plastic.\r\n\r\nLubricate, add weight, and start spinning!\r\n\r\nFirstly, you need to gently free the center bearing. Printed on a precise/accurate well-set-up machine, with a well-sliced file, the bearing should break free with relatively little effort. Just push it up/down, wiggle, and try to turn it until it starts moving. Turn it several times, and it will free up further as small surface imperfections are smoothed through movement.\r\n\r\nMetal bearings require lubrication, and this printed-in plastic bearing is no different in that respect. Lubricate the surfaces that run against each other with a lightweight silicone (or similar) lubricant to help your spinner spin as freely as possible with minimal drag.\r\n\r\nOnce lubricated, add coin weights and shims/spacers evenly into the three weight holders and screw them into place. Make sure the shims/spacers used make the stack slightly high in the holder so the coins and shims/spacers are held firmly when the holders have been tightened in place. It's essential that the coins and spacers are held securely and can't move otherwise they will move during spinning and upset the balance. This will compromise the spin stability and duration.\r\n\r\nYour Coin Weighted Fidget Spinner will continue to loosen through use, so the spin rate and duration should improve through use as it is run in.\r\n\r\nExperiment with your weighting to achieve the ideal weight that lets your Coin Weighted Fidget Spinner spin for the longest time possible.
