Common problem with those black foam floaters for fuel taps that come equipped with a level sensor - specifically the Reed Valve. The foam isn't resistant to gasoline and typically stops floating after about a year. This is an easy fix, as the floater in question is simply an add-on component. To repair it, you can take a stiff wire, bend it around, and attach it directly to the original float. For added stability, consider using another long rod to apply gentle pressure from the top.
