Adaptor to fix an AXA HR roller onto a Nordlicht bicycle dynamo
thingiverse
The Nordlicht bottle dynamo was undoubtedly the most exceptional bottle dynamo ever manufactured. Its efficiency, reliability and remarkable robustness made it last for decades in regular use. However, its production ceased several years ago, leaving owners without any means to maintain their Nordlicht dynamos due to the unavailability of replacement rubber idlers. The best available option now is the AXA HR dynamo, with replacement rubber rollers still in production. Although the AXA HR rubbers are somewhat larger than those for the Nordlicht, they are not directly compatible. This adapter enables an AXA HR rubber roller to be fitted onto the Nordlicht dynamo, allowing it to remain operational. AXA HR rubbers can be purchased at the following link: https://www.dutchbikebits.com/axa-hr-traction-replacement-rubber Two identical parts need to be printed, which fit onto each side of the Nordlicht mounting point for a rubber idler. The idler must first be removed. These parts are then secured by the AXA rubber or can be glued to the Nordlicht if preferred. Note that since the AXA rubber has a larger diameter than the original, your dynamo will spin slightly more slowly with less resistance and maximum output will be achieved at a higher speed. This should still fall within normal cycling speeds, and everyone is likely to appreciate the reduced resistance.
