Adaptation of Zarquon's Galaxy Nexus Mount
thingiverse
This is my replication of Zarquon's Galaxy Nexus car mount, acquired from Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15490). I purchased the suction cup part for $7.50 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Generation-Vehicle-Charger-Packaging/dp/B002Y3BYQA), which is quite affordable for those who wish to model and print. Since I couldn't work much with STL files, I duplicated the design in Google Sketchup from scratch. I made several modifications including cutting out fill, integrating the adapter plate (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15432), changing screw hole placements to accept hex nuts, removing the front center nub as it wasn't secure, and adding spaces for buttons to prevent contact with the mount. The back is based on Zarquon's STL design with a rectangular chunk removed to accommodate the power button. Recently, I upgraded my printer to ABS and reprinted the mount. I also redesigned the back in Sketchup using Slic3r software, although there were some issues. The screw tracks aren't perfect, but it still works well without tightening the screws. To print, use supports as the integrated adapter plate requires them due to noticeable overhangs. Trimming the hex channels and drilling holes is also necessary; I used M4 20mm hex bolts and lock nuts. In V2, I offset the mount to avoid blocking my dashcam's view. I retained Zarquon's original back design since the power button cutout was unnecessary. Lastly, I renamed the files to prevent key substrings from getting truncated. A word of caution: PLA may become soft inside a parked car on sunny days, so consider this when printing and using the mount.
