This effigy relief brings to life Adalbert of Saxony, who served as administrator of the Archdiocese of Mainz under the title Adalbart III. Unfortunately for Adalbert, he passed away in 1484 before being ordained as bishop, meaning he never had the opportunity to ascend to archbishop. As a result, his depiction is without mitre and pallium. The original sculpture can be found within the walls of Mainz Cathedral in Germany, where it once held a cross pole in Adalbert's hand, along with Gothic rods and a canopy that have been added more recently.
