Ada Lewis was a successful Jewish philanthropist who shared her peers' worries about decent housing for single low-paid working women. She designed and constructed several housing units for women in the early 1900s. The marble memorial was originally placed in 1908 to honor local benefactor Ada Lewis, but it was used as a drinking trough instead of its intended purpose. In late 2010, the memorial was relocated to a more central location within Bridge Gardens. An illuminated fountain sits within a pool, surrounded by a paved area with seating, allowing users to enjoy both the fountain and views of the River Thames and Maidenhead Bridge.
