This is a rare acupuncture model crafted from wood in Japan in 1681. It was most likely employed to educate students of acupuncture, an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In the practice of acupuncture, practitioners carefully insert fine needles into precise spots on a patient's skin called acupuncture points. The model clearly displays these points, marked with Japanese characters, along pathways known as meridians, which are also depicted on the model.
