Actuator Modification for Rockler 4 Inch Stable Gate
thingiverse
I modified a Universal Power Door Lock Actuator to open and close a Rockler 4 inch Stable gate for a wood shop dust collection system, and provided the necessary parts for modification and mounting of the actuator to the gate. To make these modifications, first remove the dust boot from the actuator case and saw off the top end just below the groove where the dust boot was installed. Then, pry open the case and take out the large gear and rack gear/plunger assembly. Next, use a Dremel tool or similar device to cut a hole in the bottom of the actuator so that the new rack gear/plunger can be inserted and protrude through. Install the new plunger and reassemble the actuator by snapping it back into place, securing it with zip ties. After this, install the arm on the plunger and the mount on the actuator, aligning them properly to prepare for gluing to the side of the gate. Next, apply glue to the mount and attach it securely to the side of the gate, positioning the actuator in its closed position. Now, drill small holes into the gate slide's top rail and fasten a sheet metal screw through each hole, attaching it to the arm installed earlier, securing everything in place. The next step will be figuring out a method for creating a new dust boot that will work well with this system, perhaps something like a vinyl glove finger or similar component that provides a perfect seal when used properly. A detailed video tutorial demonstrating these steps is available online at https://youtu.be/rlGQl_NfcME.
