Action Camera Cage!
thingiverse
We shoot a lot for our YouTube channels, which requires a plethora of cameras. Therefore, we needed one with a standard external mic input so to the internet we looked and found the COOAU 4K 20MP Wi-Fi Action Camera External Microphone Remote Control EIS Stabilization Underwater 40M Waterproof Sport Camera with two 2X1200mAh Batteries (see more here: http://on-photography.pictures/COOAU_action_camera). We also needed a more advanced cage for the camera, similar to those available for the GoPro and DJI Osmo line, to mount it to various arms. So we went to Fusion 360 to design and 3D print our own version, which turned out far better than expected! The COOAU Action is an incredibly good camera for its price, and the audio quality is also superior to standard cheap Chinese action cameras due to the external mic. However, the body of the COOAU is the same as all affordable generic branded Chinese action cameras, so this cage should work with them too. If you want to see more about this cage, we made a video that you can watch here: https://youtu.be/qwEMZZzzpn8 The cage itself is designed in multiple parts: Action Camera Cage-Body v26.stl, which is the main body of the cage with 1/4-20 mounting holes mounted 9mm on center (standard cage alignment); Action Camera Cage-Back v29.stl, which is the sun shield back; and Action Camera Cage-FrontCover v28.stl, which is a form-fit version for the COOUA camera with a protective lens hood. The front and back are physically attached to the cage by M4 x 5mm screws (you can get them here: http://on-photography.pictures/m4_screws). We liked the looks of the hex caps, even though screw heads would work. Two Major Favors: if you make one of these, please post the Make and share it with the community; secondly, if you're using this for a non-COOUA camera, please list the camera so others will know.
