Acrylic Design
thingiverse
4 transparent layers of acrylic sheets with varied artwork on each layer coming together to form one intricate design when layered on top of one another. Creating this layered art starts by designing it as a complete drawing using Adobe Illustrator and a digital paintbrush. First, I drew the main "maze" part, followed by adding a spiral shape, dots accompanying the spiral, and small geometric mazes within the larger maze. This process is repeated until every path in the maze is filled with various designs. Each design layer has its unique characteristics, though they might resemble each other closely. However, all except the uniform dots have differences - their size varies and some have different directions of paths. Upon completing the drawing, I selected each identical shape, placing them onto separate layers for further processing. Layer one comprises the main maze, layer two contains the dots, layer three holds the swirling patterns, while layer four is made up of small geometric shapes. I proceeded to place each layer into individual documents and sent these off to be cut using a laser printer. Following this, the various design pieces were adhered onto separate acrylic sheets where they rasterized into the material. Once all layers were cut out, I layered them on top of one another, allowing for an illusionary 3D effect to emerge in the final artwork. Once I decided the best order for layering, I glued each piece together. For those wishing to add a personal touch, the best advice is to get creative with designs - make it your own and enjoy the process.
