This acrylic case is specifically designed for Solidoodle 2 printers and secured by 1/4" magnets. The top of the case has been raised to allow more space for filament to bend towards the extruder, and it's removable for easy access to change filament or adjust the Z screw without dismantling the entire printer. Each side panel can be easily removed for quick access to print or glass clips. The right side includes an opening suitable for an 80mm fan that can either cool the print area with PLA, ventilate through a filter, or blow hot air from a heater to raise ambient case temperature. Designs for hot air duct attachments are also planned. The door used is from the metal case, but if unavailable, contact Solidoodle for a possible purchase. Alternatively, create your own design. The DXF file can be laser cut or outsourced at approximately $60 from Ponoko; a local plastic shop performed the task for me. The case works best with 3/16" or 5mm acrylic. The top piece overlaps side panels and front/back pieces, glued or solvent-welded to the front/back pieces. It also features cutouts to cover rivets on the frame's front top. Notches accommodate magnets for secure attachment. The back piece has extra magnet holes for standing the case upright. The top is slightly shorter than the back edge, ensuring it doesn't hang off when warming the case interior. Shims or feet are provided for bottom edges, fitting around rivets and magnets to prevent dragging on tables and clearance from rivet heads at the printer's base. Magnets at the top should be flush with acrylic, while those at the bottom can protrude slightly for contact. A recommended heater is available on Amazon for internal case heating, directing air down away from the bed during use. A 3" duct mount and hood have been added to angle air down inside, maintaining a safe temperature of around 60C.
