Acrow prop Vive lighthouse mounting system
thingiverse
This is a non-destructive acrow prop based mounting system for the HTC Vice lighthouses that allows quick setup and takedown without requiring fixings in various environments. The design is a remix of cmooney91's great idea (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1793515), incorporating a wedge-based quick change system into my prop design. The basic concept involves applying pressure between the floor and ceiling to hold the fixture in place, using a telescopic design where excess upper stage material is kept inside the lower stage, accommodating various ceiling heights. Standard PVC electrical conduit, 25mm and 20mm, are used, each cut to 1800mm length. The floor foot (25mm) features a 10mm thick rubber pad screwed to its bottom, with M3 machine screws from the top, allowing only the rubber to make contact with the floor. Similarly, the ceiling foot (20mm) has a 10mm thick self-adhesive polyethylene foam attached to prevent markings, picked up at the local hardware store. Each foot has horizontal holes for conduit insertion and tapping for M5 screws, securing it in place. Cable ties can be used instead if preferred. Handles made from M6 hex head bolts (30mm) allow tool-free installation and changing, with four cranks per prop. The design includes a thin layer to support the hex slot, requiring drilling out before the bolt can slide through, eliminating the need for supports during printing. Inserts are made to fit snugly over the bolt, needing edge cleanup for easy fitting. Assembly begins by threading the large nut's left and right hand threads into the 20mm and 25mm parts, keeping the arrow facing up towards the 20mm half. The 20mm side is tapped for M6 bolts with handles, while the 25mm side accepts M5 x 10mm screws. Slide the 25mm conduit into place and tighten before inserting the 20mm conduit, which requires sliding on the lighthouse mount. The mount is held in place by more M6 hand cranks, tapping these holes for M6 as well. The whole strut can be roughly installed where needed, tightening the hand cranks to lock the 20mm side into position. Final pressure application comes from turning the centre nut, with holes ready for additional M6 screws if desired. For the lighthouse puck, two versions are included: a hex model accepting an M5 nyloc nut and a round model fitting an M5 socket cap machine screw. The puck is made deeper than the original to accommodate the nut or screw without fouling, making it incompatible with cmooney91's design. Print the parts on a Prusa i3 MK2S in white eSun PETG, 0.2mm layer height, 3 walls, 5% infill, and no support. The used parts per prop are: M3 x 10mm button head machine screw (x4) M5 x 10mm button head machine screw (x6) M5 x 10mm socket cap machine screw (x2) M5 nyloc nut (x2) M5 washer (x2) M6 x 30mm hex head bolt (x4) 20mm electrical PVC conduit (1x 4m length) 25mm electrical PVC conduit (1x 4m length) 10mm x 75mm x 75mm polyethylene strip (self-adhesive) 10mm x 75mm x 75mm rubber sheet Source files from Fusion 360 are included for modifications to suit available materials. If changes are made, sharing the design is encouraged to help others as well.
