The macro scan reveals an actual acorn measuring approximately 1.5 centimeters in diameter. Andricus quercuscalicis is a specific species of gall wasp that causes the formation of knopper galls on pedunculate oak trees, specifically Quercus robur L. These galls develop as a result of gall wasps laying eggs in buds using their ovipositor, which triggers a chemical response that distorts the growth of the acorn.
