Acetone Can Lid Opener
thingiverse
Saw Fuferman's chemical bottle opener and was thrilled to tackle a persistent annoyance of mine. The lids on my acetone and paint thinner cans were incredibly tight, rendering various screwdrivers and instruments useless as they deformed the lids, making it difficult to close them even after prying. I needed something more substantial that could withstand the opening force without shearing the tab off mine. I reinforced the part by doubling the pry tab thickness and gave it a sturdier top surface to aid in closing it as well. I printed this on its side so the layers ended up vertical, cutting through the cap symmetrically. While printing vertically gives truer arcs and looks nicer, layer adhesion is still my biggest challenge in 3D modeling. The pressure needed to pop the lid off can easily snap the tab by peeling layers if I print it in the intended orientation. For this part, I used 40% infill, supports everywhere, and a brim for added adhesion.
