Accoustic Guitar v1 - No Supports

thingiverse

I was inspired to design and print my own guitar after printing Solstie's guitar on Thingiverse. There were some things I liked and others that I thought could be improved, so I decided to give it a shot. Depending on the response and interest in this model, I may release the OpenSCAD source. There are many more parts to this guitar than Solstie's, but it can still be printed without supports just like his. Just like his, this guitar neck warps significantly with string tension and is very difficult to keep in tune. If you attempt to print this, make sure your printer is dialed in and has good adhesion to the print bed. I designed this with 0.6mm gaps between the major pieces (like between the body and neck) and 0.3mm between smaller pieces (like the fret wires into the fretboard). **Extra required materials** * super glue (probably 2 small tubes) * Gorilla glue (only used to glue the neck to the body) * tuning machines (10mm diameter max) * steel rod to use as a truss rod (optional), (3/8" diameter, 420mm long) * 3/4 scale classical guitar strings **NOTICE: Dry-fit all the pieces before gluing them together. Sort out any problems and make adjustments as necessary before applying glue. Use super glue to secure the base of the bridge. Use a light glue (like a glue stick) to secure the bridge into the slot with the angled side toward the bottom of the body. Insert truss rod pins between each neck piece. Use super glue for each joint. Use a metal bar and some rubber band to keep the neck pieces aligned and straight while curing. Put Gorilla glue inside neck pocket on the body. You can use a squirt bottle to dampen the glue so it'll begin to set. Insert the bottom neck piece into the body. The holes on the back of the neck will match up with the holes on the back of the body. Insert the steel rod from the top of the neck and down into the body. Glue in the body-neck pin (body_neck_pin.stl) into the neck pocket on the body with the short side exposed. Put Gorilla glue inside neck pocket on the body. You can use a squirt bottle to dampen the glue so it'll begin to set. Slide the base of the neck into the body from the front with a little gap to clear the pin, and then slide it into place. Wait a full 24 hours after gluing. Install the tuning machines and strings. If you want to use a strap, you can glue in the strap buttons on the bottom of the body and back of the base of the neck. I should've paid more attention to how flexible the neck might be with all the string tension on it. I didn't assemble this with a steel rod, which I'm sure would've added extra stiffness. It's currently really hard to keep in tune and the neck bows a fair bit.
