I tightened the screw until it was almost seated in my AC's drainage hole, but it still wasn't quite making it all the way in. So, I decided to reduce the top screw size slightly, which ended up positioning the four side holes roughly halfway down the drain. This creates enough space for condensate to flow into those side holes rather than getting stuck at the very top.
