ABS replacement strut
myminifactory
This derivative work utilizes MBI's open source parts files available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4973. I'm attempting to create a replacement for one of the plywood struts commonly broken during ABP assembly. My own strut broke due to careless handling while assembling my Thing-O-Matic in March 2011. At that time, I was trying to learn CAD and utilize idle CNC machines at a local college, but MBI's files were challenging to work with. The updated Rev. F version is cleaner and easier to use, especially after deleting the hidden block libraries which, although useful for MBI's design purposes, can hinder manufacturing efforts. May 5, 2011 - I successfully printed the ABP strut replacement featuring bushing holes. A small tang had been damaged during our initial assembly, so we epoxied it together, but my sons were not satisfied with that temporary fix. They insisted on printing a new one after reading about others having printed entire bots on Thingiverse, such as Webca's creation found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3285. We decided to take on the challenge of printing a replacement part. In my images, any appearance of warping is due to the black paper beneath; the part itself is flat. February 2012 - The part prints accurately and consistently, thanks to the reliable file. My earlier mistake as a beginner is now evident, as seen in the new picture displayed in red.
