Giles Bathgate's Metric Fasteners library in OpenSCAD offers an 8mm (or 5/16 imperial) nut model, which can be trimmed to act as a jam nut for backing up threaded rods. This nut design can also replace regular nuts in non-critical applications. To use it, import the .stl file into Replicator G, positioning and rotating as necessary on your build platform. You may duplicate or array the nut in Skeinforge to fill a larger area. OpenSCAD's difference command can be used to adjust nut size for thinner jam nuts. For accurate sizing reference, consult boltdepot.com's Metric Nut Size chart. To further enhance the design, adjust the inner diameter and use a thread cutting tool within the nut for better threading results.
