ABS Fume filter
thingiverse
This is an updated design, modeled after http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8717 . A base permanently connects to the enclosure and fan, ensuring easy access when filter material needs replacement - no tools required. The part containing the filter detaches from the base for convenient disassembly as needed. Activated carbon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002APZY4) is used in this design. For mesh, I cut up a shallot bag, discovering that it allows for sufficient airflow. A face mask material initially tested proved ineffective due to restricted airflow. The fan attaches to the base using standard M5x10 screws, typically supplied with the fan (e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/261702980525). The base connects to the enclosure via M3 flush head flat top screws. Two versions of the bottom and middle sections are now available - a deeper/larger capacity design has been added. A strong fan is necessary to effectively push air through this larger capacity version. I've selected a 67CFM fan, which claims to deliver high performance; its actual performance remains to be seen.
