Abraham Lincoln Life Mask

Abraham Lincoln Life Mask

Life masks were extremely popular in the nineteenth century because they produced an almost identical replica of the sitter's features. Throughout the Civil War, Lincoln deliberately made himself "visible" to the American people, demonstrating his dedication. No better proof existed of his tireless work than the deep lines etched on his face. Lincoln was acutely aware that the war had taken its toll on him, leaving him visibly aged and weary.
