Create a flat, functional heated bed from your Automatic Build Platform (ABP) components: After some frustrating experiences with the ABP, we decided to dismantle it and use its heater board, thermistor, and connections to build a new Heated Bed Platform (HBP). We used a wooden base with magnets from one of the acrylic bases that came with our Ultimate Cupcake, a 100mm square sheet of zinc or aluminum (aluminum is recommended), four M3 x 16mm bolts, and Kapon tape for insulation. To assemble the HBP, first remove the heater board with its connections from the ABP. Then, take the wooden base with magnets from one of the acrylic bases. Cut a square piece of zinc or aluminum and drill four holes on the corners for the bolts, using the acrylic base as a guide. Cover the metal sheet with two layers of Kapon tape, carefully applying each layer without overlapping rows to avoid ridges. Stack all the pieces together, paying attention to the Y-axis alignment for wire placement, and secure them with M3 x 16mm bolts and nuts. Our experience showed that a flat aluminum sheet works best, and tapping the bolt holes for flat head stove bolts helps achieve a flat surface. With this setup, we achieved excellent results, but ensure your zinc or aluminum piece is perfectly flat to avoid uneven heat transfer and potential issues. Enjoy your new HBP!
