AARÓN Y NAHÚN
sketchfab
Maestro Mateo and his workshop circa 1200 The stone choir carved by Maestro Mateo as part of his final project to renovate the Cathedral of Santiago in preparation for its solemn consecration in 1211 included a series of biblical character sculptures, arranged in sequences of four per each section of the bench seating, which were situated on the exterior wall crests, protruding into the cathedral's lateral naves. By 1604, the choir was demolished and replaced with a new wooden one, and some of its pieces were reused elsewhere in the cathedral; among them, a series of biblical character figures that, over two stages, eventually formed the so-called "Vintecatro da Porta Santa" due to their location on the exterior facade of the Holy Door. The sequence begins at the bottom left side of the first section with images of Aarón, brother of Moses and first High Priest of Israel, and Nahún, one of the minor prophets.
