I've got some stuff here that eats a lot of batteries. They don't have a socket for a DC adapter? No big deal! Inside these battery adapters, there are tubes where you can run a cable through. So you can use things (designed only to operate on batteries) with an external AC-DC power supply! BEWARE: Don't kill your stuff by using a higher voltage than it can handle! One AAA cell has a max of 1.5 volts!
