As part of our work with the National Archives we were trying a number of conversions for historical artifacts. The Rochester Bible is not held by the National Archives but was a quick example found when looking for illuminated manuscripts to demonstrate the effectiveness of our 3D print conversion process. The original Rochester Bible image came from Wikipedia.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_calligraphy#/media/File:English_-_Rochester_Bible_-_Walters_W18_-_Reverse_Detail.jpgWe customised the tactile alternative to bring out the interweaving of the decorative elements of the example. It includes a significant amount of interwoven vines along with other decorative elements that we wanted to represent in 3D.The text itself has been left intact rather than replacing with Braille. This is because it is seen that this kind of example would not be used as a direct readable translation, as the text is not legible to many a modern sighted user either, but instead was kept as it was to demonstrate the flowing form of the calligraphy, rather than what it specifically says.
