Those cheap single AA battery holders consistently fail me after only a few months so I engineered a simple sleeve to slip over them and secure the battery in place, thereby slowing down the splitting process and holding a battery within a split holder. I've demonstrated its effectiveness here around my Joule Thief-powered night light that utilizes flat batteries to power a blue LED for extended periods of time, often going non-stop for months on end.
