This tool is designed to ensure your Z level is set accurately. It sits securely on the Y rods and provides a precise level surface for you to align the lower X rod onto. Once in place, simply remove the tool and avoid fiddling around with a micrometer, trying to get it positioned correctly and hoping it's accurate. **Note:** This tool gauge only works effectively on 172mm Center-Center Y rods. Also note that my photos depict the initial version of this tool, which featured only one Y rod stabilizer outrigger. The current version has two. To use this tool, follow these steps: Step 1: Bring the bed all the way forward. Step 2: Move the print head to the center position. Step 3: Position the tool on the Y rods. Step 4: Manually lower the Z height until the lower X rod makes initial contact (no pressure applied). This is crucial, as we only want it touching, similar to using a feeler gauge or placing paper under your nozzle for clearance. Just ensure it's touching, without applying any pressure. Step 5: Verify that the lower X rod is just touching both rest stops. You may need to stop the Z steppers and adjust them individually by hand. Step 6: Slide the tool back and remove it. Step 7: Level your bed. Step 8: Enjoy perfectly printed first layers. **Edit Note:** If your tool doesn't sit properly on the Y rails, simply heat the center part that holds the left and right sides together to make it flat against the Y rails. I used a .4 nozzle, .2 layer thickness, 2 shell walls, 3 top and bottom layers, and 15 or 20% infill.
