A4000 Front Cover

Old computers may still hold up great, but their plastics often don't last the test of time. They yellow through brominated flame retardants or become brittle with age. The Amiga 4000 is one such computer that's affected by this issue. Due to its limited production numbers, replacement parts are difficult to come by. I created a front cover design to complement other case replacement projects out there, particularly those focused on reverse-engineering and providing spare parts for worn-out components. This project is still a work-in-progress, but my initial attempts suggest that fitment looks good. There are two versions available: one with clips that can be split in half for users with smaller printer beds (it fits perfectly on the Prusa I3 printers), and another full-size version for those with larger printers. To assemble the print, simply split it in half at 190.7 using your preferred slicer/editor, right through the keyboard lock. The three clips should then hold the alignment when you join the parts together - superglue is sufficient for both PETG and PLA. I'm still working on designing pegs that securely attach the cover to the chassis. At present, the print alignment isn't great for strength, so I'm looking at creating receptacles for them so they can be printed separately and glued in place. An initial version has been added where the pegs are replaced with posts featuring a space for a 4mm*1mm neodymium round magnet - I need to come up with a suitable solution for something to clip into the post holes for the magnets to attach next. (I chose to stick with the positions of the clips rather than creating new post positions.) The .step files are included if you want to customize further or do something crazy, like adapt it for CAM and carve it out of a block of aluminium. Print it slow for accuracy - clearance seems okay, but there may still be a few places that need adjusting with sanding. Oh, and the screw-holes for the cover plates - those are designed for M3 threaded inserts. Edit: I added Magnetic attachment beta, and some crazy person did decide to carve covers out of aluminium after all! (Shout-out to PRS on Amibay!)
