A Sunday on La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat
prusaprinters

I have chosen this wonderful painting as the next in my sequence of colour prints because it is Seurat's Pointillism that partly inspired me to embark of this project. Please read the description for "Starry Night" for how all the print files were created.

In this case I used the .obj files and then Slic3r (see print settings below).

The next steps in this project for me are firstly to incorporate white filament. This will increase the palette to 1400 colours and will be akin to the process used to print the colour pictures we see in newspapers. Separately I need to learn about UV (un)wrapping in Blender to see how to apply my approach to full 3d objects using an MMU printer.

Copyright: cco Public Domain Designation - Art Institute Chicago

Print instructions

Firstly, you must have the best calibration you can get. Check out Jeff Jordan in our forum.
Secondly, some of these files are BIG. You may well get a "Not responding" message from Slic3r as you load the larger ones - be patient.
There are a lot of settings that apply to the 4 colour files:
Print Settings:
Layers and perimeters:
Perimeters 0
Solid Layers Top 0 Bottom 0
Infill:
Fill density: 90%
Fill pattern (all 3 patterns) Concentric
Fill angle 90
Solid infill threshold area 0.2
Bridging angle 45
Skirt and Brim:
Loops 0
Speed:
Infill 60
First layer 1
Advanced:
Extrusion width
First Layer 0.35
Infill 0.35
Bridge flow ratio 1.05
Printer settings
Extruder minimum travel after retraction 0.25

For the backing file revert all settings to normal 1) but speed up the first layer to normal print speed and MOST IMPORTANTLY in Printer Settings set the z-offset to 0.2

Gcodes will take a long time to process. See "Starry Night" for how to print with one additional instruction.
When changing colours remove the initial wipe and you should find and remove some tiny dots near the back of the bed at both end of the x-axis. These are alignment marks.
