A Sturdier and Still Cheap Filament Turntable
thingiverse
This revised text is based on my earlier "Affordable Filament Turntable" project. While it initially performed well, I now have access to local ABS filament supplies in larger diameters. To enhance sturdiness, instead of cutting bigger cardboard circles, I proceeded with the upgraded version. To create this improved model, drill a hole in the center of a plastic saucer (a punch or drill can be used). The hole should allow passage for the bolt. If using an expanded polystyrene container from a birthday cake, replace the saucer but note that ABS washers will be recommended. Secure the bolt to the saucer with two nuts. An optional ABS washer can be added, but it will distribute the filament roll's weight evenly on the marbles while keeping the turning centered through the bolt. For a sturdy base, invert a CD case and place glass marbles within its gutter (most cases have gutters at the back, but some 50-disks cases may not). Position the saucer with the bolt in the center hole on top of the marbles for a stable turntable. To guide the filament, I recommend using a 3M command adhesive strip on the wall. It provides an effective solution.
