Sadly these days most people think a classic ray-gun looks like Han Solo's Mauser or a Stormtrooper's sub-machinegun. But older folks remember when Leslie Nielson wasn't funny yet and props were designed, not just hastily assembled from found objects. Forbidden Planet? That's actually a comic shop in London! This is still a project in progress, but I wanted to get it out there while there are people alive who remember the film. The handle isn't quite right because Solidworks just can't get the slightly flattened part on the back at the bottom; and there's a glitch in the .stl for the rear cap - one side of the three-pointed star detail is not solid, so it may print strangely, but cleans up easily. Eventually I'll tidy things up, eventually I'll do many other things... The body is hollow, providing plenty of room to fit your lighting system of choice. If you're in Australia, you can simply head into Big W and buy the same torch I used. Of course filament printers still can't produce clear parts properly, but if you want to be serious, you can always polish up the printed barrel bits and use them to create silicone molds for casting with clear resin.
