A Scots Girl at The Scottish National Gallery, Scotland

The model for this bust was Ada Mary Barclay, daughter of John Maclaren Barclay, a renowned Perth-born society portraitist. Barclay's own artistic talents flourished later in life as she developed into a skilled picture restorer and painter of landscapes and portraits, showcasing her work at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1876 to 1886 before relocating to India. Brodie, who presented this bust at the Academy in 1870, emerged as the most prolific Scottish portrait and monumental sculptor of his time.
