World War Two: A Global Cataclysm A prisoner of war crafts an ingenious heater from discarded food tins provided by the British Red Cross, showcasing humanity amidst dire circumstances. The Geneva Conventions, while establishing protections for prisoners of war and combatants, fell short in safeguarding civilians during this tumultuous era. The Red Cross parcels served as a testament to their efforts, yet the organization was consistently denied access to those detained in concentration camps. As a direct consequence of World War Two, the existing Geneva Conventions underwent significant revisions in 1949, incorporating vital updates and establishing a new Convention dedicated to protecting civilians, ensuring that such atrocities would never again be repeated.
