A new printer IdeaLab One 3d printer
thingiverse
Aiming to create a safe, open-source desktop 3D printer, I was concerned about my young child's exposure to potential hazards. Thus, I based the design on a protective cover. After over a year of work, the project is now in Beta version with available files and setup instructions for my printer forthcoming. The printer features a size of 410mm x 300mm x 356mm, uses Teensylu electronics with stepsticks, ABS and PLA (heated bed) materials, a 24V power supply, and a work space of 200mm x 150mm x 150mm. The prototype revealed excellent print quality without extensive calibration. Check out the campaign for photos at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/idea-lab-one-open-source-3d-printer/x/4179243, and assembly instructions will be available by the weekend. Additionally, CNC cutted parts for the printer are available on the campaign page.
