A Magical Carousel

A Magical Carousel

When I printed Kelly Egan's PonyTrope over a year ago, I chose those magnificent horses for a more elegant display than simply being stuck on sticks. So, I started designing this carousel with a vision of bringing them to life in a new way. With 12 unique panels, each one requires its own design to animate under a strobe light, resulting in thousands of individual parts. You can see the animation come together at https://youtu.be/wfNbcGoBeLU and https://youtu.be/AStDv9wabnI. This project does not include the horses; you can find them on Kelly Egan's PonyTrope at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:584516. Here's how I designed it: Each panel of the carousel was created in OpenScad, and my code was written with a focus on parameterizing each part based on its position, or n. I then rendered each piece for values of n from 1 to 12 and saved them individually.
