A lens grinding die for experimental 3D printed lenses
thingiverse
I've created a hand-grinding die specifically designed to shape a Plano-concave optical element. The ultimate goal is to craft a meniscus lens capable of producing high-quality 4x5 photographs. The grinding die features an internal manifold that allows for the efficient supply of water during the grinding process. This design may be further refined by incorporating grooves into the grinding surface to improve slurry clearing. When slicing, I opted for thick walls (3mm) to ensure the grinding die remains intact and can withstand the rigorous polishing process it will undergo. The die has been carefully designed and oriented for optimal printing results with minimal support from the build plate.
