a lasercut top mount spooler
thingiverse
As a huge fan of the Ben Heck Show, I couldn't help but notice that his replicator features a top-mounted spooler setup. My initial instinct was to search for existing files online, but unfortunately, none were available. So, I embarked on my own adventure in the Thingiverse jungle. I spent hours scouring high and low, determined to find what I was looking for, but ultimately came up empty-handed. As a result, I decided to design my very own top-mounted spooler. At this stage, my design simply rests atop the printer, and its dimensions are roughly a few millimeters longer than those of my uploaded version. Here's how you can replicate it: **Step 1: Preparing for Laser Cutting** Before lasercutting this spool holder, ensure your laser settings are set to 'Outside'. If not, as I inadvertently discovered, your captive nuts will indeed be anything but secure. Don't repeat my mistake! **Assembling the Spool Holder** You'll need a few basic tools and components: four 10 mm screws, matching nuts, and a 19-inch wooden dowel. Firstly, insert the wooden rods into one side panel only, as inserting them into both panels will make it difficult to maneuver over your machine. With this in place, use two 10 mm screws to securely attach the two panels together via their captive nut holes. Now, gently slide the newly built spool holder between the wiring of your extruder nozzle - consult the provided image for a clearer understanding of this step.
