This is an elegantly crafted stone figure, reportedly a likeness of Le Chevalier Dunois, a trusted ally of St Joan of Arc. Depicted at prayer, the knight wears polished plate armor without a helmet. Possibly reduced from a larger, kneeling form, this figure may have originated as part of a tomb monument. The sculpture is estimated to date back to the 15th century. Its craftsmanship is exceptional, with intricate details meticulously rendered in the depiction of the armor. In May 1929, Sir William Burrell acquired the sculpture from Acton Surgey dealers.
